History of the DMMD

The Department of Molecular Mechanisms of Disease (DMMD) was initially founded in January 1993 as a branch of the former Institute of Pharmacology and Biochemistry under the name of Institute of Veterinary Biochemistry, and since July 2001, Institute of Veterinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IVBMB).
The DMMD bears its current name since January 2016, to better reflect its status as Department of both the Vetsuisse and Science Faculty, and to better describe its research activities. The current focus of research at the DMMD is on:

• Cell signaling in inflammatory diseases
• Epigenetics and chromatin dynamics in cancer
• Genome instability in cancer and aging
