For his Masters Degree he joined Prof. Denise Barlow’s laboratory at the Center for Molecular Medicine in Vienna, working on genomic imprinting. In 2004 he joined Prof. Ortrun Mittelsten Scheid at the Gregor Mendel Institute as part of the Vienna Biocenter PhD Program to study epigenetic phenomena in plants. In 2009, Tuncay moved to the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel to work together with Prof. Dirk Schübeler on genome-wide regulation of DNA methylation in mouse embryonic stem cells. His postdoctoral work was supported by EMBO long-term and Erwin Schrödinger fellowships.
